Average Processing Times

Processing times begin on the day our office receives a complete application and end on the day the final decision (i.e. approval/refusal) leaves our office. These are no guarantee of how long it will take to process your application.

For more information on processing times for all other categories of applications at Canadian visa offices, please see the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) website.

Properly completing your application and providing the documentation requested will help us to take a final decision in respect to the processing time.

Temporary Residence Applications:

Temporary resident visa (visitor visa):

At this time, we are processing temporary resident visas (visitor visas) within 10 working days.

As the processing time may increase during the busy travel season, we recommend that you apply well in advance of your planned flight. .

We offer multiple entry visas valid for up to five years** .

** The validity of the visa may be limited by the validity of the passport and the validity of any study or work permit.

Temporary Student Permit:

At this time, study permits are finalized within 21 days. During peak times (July and August), the study permit processing time may be longer due to increased volume of applications. Therefore we strongly recommend that you submit your application at least 45 days before your departure date. Processing time may be shorter.

Temporary Work Permit:

The normal processing time is 6 weeks.

Applicants for the Live-In Caregiver Program (LCP) and the Low Skilled Pilot Program (LSP) may take up to 12 months to be processed.

Travel document for permanent resident returning to Canada:

15 days (on average)

These are average processing times only. Some applications take longer to process for various reasons. The following factors could delay the processing of your application:

  • incomplete applications
  • needing a medical exam (additional 2-4 weeks from the date of the medical exam if no complications arise, such as the need for further testing)
  • requiring background or security checks
  • having a criminal record
  • needing an interview
  • documents that need to be verified
  • other factors that complicate your case.

Applications are dealt with in the order in which they are received.

*Our Visa Section will not respond to case status enquiries within the processing times as stated above.
