Canada - Cape Verde Relations

In Cape Verde, Canada is represented by the Embassy of Canada in Dakar, Senegal.

Canada's bilateral relations with Cape Verde are based largely on cooperation in La Francophonie.

In terms of development assistance, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) maintains no bilateral program with Cape Verde. Canada provides humanitarian assistance to the country through multilateral programs. Canada also funds small local initiatives aimed at promoting human rights and good governance via the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), which is managed by the Embassy of Canada in Senegal. The priorities of Official Development Assistance (ODA) for 2010-2011 are as follows:

  • Increasing Food Security
  • Securing the Future of Children and Youth
  • Stimulating Sustainable Economic Growth
  • Advancing Democracy
  • Ensuring Security and Stability.

Bilateral trade between Canada and Cape Verde is negligible.
