Canada-Gambia Relations

 

In The Gambia, Canada is represented by the Embassy of Canada in Dakar, Senegal.

The Gambia is represented in Canada by an Embassy in Washington, D.C., U.S.A., and The Gambia has one honorary consul in Toronto and another in Montreal

Bilateral relations with Gambia are limited.

In terms of development assistance, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) maintains no bilateral program with The Gambia. Canada provides humanitarian assistance to the country through multilateral. Canada also funds small local initiatives aimed at promoting human rights and good governance via the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), which is managed by the Embassy of Canada in Senegal. The priorities of Official Development Assistance (ODA) for 2010-2011 are as follows:

  • Increasing Food Security
  • Securing the Future of Children and Youth
  • Stimulating Sustainable Economic Growth
  • Advancing Democracy
  • Ensuring Security and Stability.

Bilateral trade between Canada and Gambia is negligible.
