How to Submit an Application to this Visa Office

As of December 11, 2013, citizens of Bangladesh, between the ages of 14 and 79, must give their biometrics (fingerprints and photographs) when submitting an application for a visitor visa, study permit or work permit. This new requirement affects citizens from 29 countries and one territory.

You can give your biometrics at the VAC in Bangladesh

*Please note that as of May 1st, 2014 the High Commission of Canada in Singapore will accept visa applications submitted online or through one of the visa application centres (VACs) in Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Singapore.

By submitting an application through a VAC, you will be able to take advantage of the extended hours of service, online tracking of your application and the assurance that your application is complete and all the proper documentation is included.  We are confident that this will lead to more efficient processing of your application.

If you apply online and are required to give your biometrics, you will need to go in person to your nearest VAC and have your biometrics taken.

Avoid Processing Delays

To avoid delays make sure you:

  • Apply online or through the nearest VAC (Bangladesh, Malaysia, or Singapore).  The VAC will verify that your application is complete, which will help you avoid unnecessary delays due to an incomplete application.
  • Apply well in advance to ensure you can travel as planned (see processing times).
  • Submit a complete application with all the supporting documents listed on the application checklist.  If you are being invited to come to Canada, you must include the invitation letter with your application.  Documents not in English or French must be accompanied by a certified translation.
  • In some cases, additional requirements such as improperly filled application forms, missing documents, police and background checks, medical examinations, and interviews can lead to longer processing times.  In the event that additional requirements are identified, our office will contact you to advise what requirements are outstanding.
  • When applying through the VAC, pay the required visa fees by certified cheque or bank draft only. Fee payments for online applications must be made by international credit card.

Submission and Return of Passports

If you apply through the VAC, you must submit your original passport with your application, and it will be returned to you once a decision has been made. If you choose NOT to include your original passport with your application, it will delay processing.

IMPORTANT: When you submit your original passport it cannot be returned to you early.  Be sure to consult the processing times and plan accordingly.

If you require your passport for travel while your application is being processed you are encouraged to apply online.  If you apply online, you must provide a clear, legible copy of your valid passport or travel document. Include a copy of the page that shows your birth date, country of origin, etc. and any pages with stamps, visas or markings.  If your application is accepted we will request you to submit your passport by mail or courier or through the nearest VAC (Bangladesh, Malaysia or Singapore).

*Applicants from Bangladesh MUST submit their passport via the VAC.

You have three options for the return of your passport(s):

  1. VACs in Bangladesh , Malaysia or Singapore
  2. Registered Mail (if you enclose a self-addressed envelope)
  3. Courier (if you make arrangements to pay for a courier to collect your passport you must enclose a waybill completed with your name, address, courier account number and telephone number – NOTE: You are responsible for paying courier costs - the High Commission will NOT pay for return courier service.  If you do not provide the account number to which the courier costs will be charged, your passport will be sent to you by registered mail).

Hours of Operation

Please note the visa office does not accept any applications submitted in person or by drop-box. Enquiries cannot be made in person. If you have been requested to submit additional documentation, please follow the instructions in your request letter. Enquiries can be sent by email.
