Fees

Effective December 17, 2011 there will be an change in the processing fees paid in South African Rands.

New applications: Processing fees must be paid when the application is submitted. The payment (bank-issued cheque or bank draft) must be attached to the application form. Refer to the fee schedule for current rates. Just before paying, check this webpage again for the up-to-date information.

Current applications: If you are paying additional fees for an application currently being processed in Pretoria, South Africa, the payment (certified cheque or bank) must be attached to the letter from our office requesting the additional payment.

Economic Class applications:

All applicants residing in Angola and Zimbabwe, because of local difficulties in obtaining Canadian financial instruments, may pay the proper processing fee at the visa office covering their region. Once you have paid and have received a receipt from the High Commission, you must submit your application to the Centralized Intake Office (CIO) in Canada.

All applicants in these classes residing in Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, and Zambia must submit their initial application to the Centralized Intake Office (CIO) in Canada. For more information on how to pay, visit the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) website.

Family class applications: All applications for sponsored family class members must be submitted to the Case Processing Centre in Canada. For more information on how to pay and where to submit your application.

Bank draft/payment instructions:

  • Processing fees must be submitted by bank-issued cheque or bank draft only, in the correct Rand amount, payable to "The Canadian High Commission".
  • Notice to applicants outside South Africa:
Cheques drawn in Rand on a bank outside South Africa must list Standard Bank of South Africa as the Correspondent bank. Cheques which do not comply with this requirement will be returned to the applicant for replacement and this will occasion additional delays.
  • The Canadian High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa, accepts fees only in Canadian dollars or South African Rand. Please do not submit fees in US dollars or any other currency as these cannot be accepted and will be returned to you.
  • A receipt will be issued for each payment received.  Please keep the receipt as proof of payment.

Processing fees are non-refundable regardless of the outcome of the application.

Paying in Canadian dollars($)

  • In cash: Applicants may pay processing fees in cash in the exact amount only.
  • By bank draft or certified cheque drawn on a Canadian bank: Bank drafts or bank-issued cheques in Canadian dollars, payable to "The Receiver General for Canada", are also acceptable, as is Canadian dollar cash (exact change only). No personal cheques, corporate cheques, credit cards or other forms of payment will be accepted. In addition, cheques drawn in Canadian dollars from a bank must list a Canadian bank as the paying bank.

Write your name and address on the back of your bank draft or certified cheque.

Please ensure that the bank does not forward your bank draft or certified cheque to this office. Your fee must accompany your application. If your application is received at this office without the processing fee attached, it will be returned to you.

Important: Bank drafts and certified cheques have a limited validity. Ensure that your bank draft or certified cheque is not older than two months when it reaches this office.

Fee Schedule

The fees in Rands are updated periodically according to the exchange rate. Payments must be for the exact amount indicated. Revisit this web page just before paying for the up-to-date information.
