Studying in Canada: Applying for a visa

Most foreign students require a permit to study in Canada. If you intend to study in the province of Quebec you will also need to apply to the Quebec provincial government. Short term programs of six months or less do not usually require a permit but still require a Temporary Resident Visa for citizens of Sri Lanka and The Maldives. If you plan to continue your studies in Canada after a short term course or if you wish to work on the campus of the educational institution, you are encouraged to apply for a permit before you go to Canada.

How to submit an application

The High Commission of Canada has made arrangements with TT Services to provide visa application services. TT Services clients interested in temporary residence visas (visitors, students, and temporary workers) may obtain application forms, receive visa information and submit their visa application via the TT Services Visa Application Centre (VAC).

The VAC charges a fee for its services. Further details on using VAC services are available at http://www.ttscanada.lk/.

Note: The Visa Application Centre is only responsible for receiving applications, reviewing them for completeness according to the online guidelines of the High Commission of Canada, and forwarding them to the High Commission in Colombo. All visa applications will continue to be assessed by visa officers at the High Commission.

Applications for temporary residence visas(visitors, students, and temporary workers) may be submitted in person at the Visa Application Centre Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 4:30. Application forms may be obtained from the Visa Application Centre, in person at the High Commission of Canada or online at www.cic.gc.ca.

The purpose of the VAC is to offer a convenient alternative method of submission of your Canadian visa application.

Applications may continue to be submitted directly to the High Commission of Canada by mail or in person from 11:30 a.m. to 12: 30 p.m., Monday to Thursday.
