Canadian music is becoming increasingly popular in Sweden, and Canadian artists perform regularly on tour in Sweden. Recent performers include Avril Lavigne, Arcade Fire, Ron Sexsmith, Celine Dion, Leonard Cohen and Le Vent du Nord. Canadian authors are also gaining considerable recognition in Sweden, with well over 150 titles translated into Swedish. Canadian films continue to be featured at various film festivals, and in November 2005, Director David Cronenberg received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the Stockholm International Film Festival.
Culturally, there are active exchanges between the Sami in northern Sweden and Canada’s First Nations. The return of the Haisla G’psgolox Totem Pole from the Ethnographic Museum in Sweden to the Haisla First Nations in March 2006 was one excellent example of two First Nation communities working together to create long-term friendships and exchanges.
