Centre for Russian and East European Studies
The Sauve Scholars Program provides an opportunity for up to fourteen young leaders from all over the world to spend eight months in Montreal attending courses at McGill University, to enlarge upon their understanding of the state of the world and their roles in making positive change. The Scholarship is valued at $30,000 CDN. Since its inception, 45 young scholars from 37 different countries have been awarded Sauvé Scholarships.
Sauve Scholars Program (DOC * 27.5 KB)
This program, from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, is designed to assist full-time graduate students at degree-granting institutions of higher education, whose dissertations are related to Canada, to undertake doctoral research about Canada. The purpose is to increase knowledge and understanding of Canada and to support the development of Canadian Studies. The award provides assistance towards international airfare and a monthly flat rate allowance for up to a maximum of 10 months spent in Canada while doing research.
Canada Ukraine Parliamentary Program (CUPP)
This program was established by the chair of the Ukrainian Studies Foundation of Toronto to mark the Centennial of Ukrainian group immigration to Canada. It allows for undergraduate university students from Ukraine to work and study in the Canadian Parliament and aspires to further equip these students with knowledge to help them contribute to the sustainable and successful future of the Ukraine. It is also considered to be a helpful way of sharing with Ukrainian students the precepts of the Rule of Law as practised in Canada.
Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan
The Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and offers citizens of other Commonwealth countries scholarships to study in Canada. This beneficial scholarship will enable you to pursue advanced academic programs in Canada while gaining the advantage of an international education. This is a rare chance for you to study and expand your knowledge about Canadian culture, values, and history.
Canadian Studies Faculty Research Award
This program is designed to assist individual academics in higher education institutions to undertake short term research about Canada or on an aspect of Canada's bilateral relations with participating countries. The purpose is to increase knowledge and understanding of Canada through publication of pertinent articles in foreign or international scholarly press. The award assists with direct costs related to the research project, and, when a research trip to Canada is warranted, provides assistance towards international airfare and a weekly flat rate allowance.
Canadian Studies Graduate Student Award
This program is designed to increase knowledge and understanding of Canada through publication of articles in the international scholarly press. The award assists you with the direct costs related to research projects and can provide you with assistance towards international airfare as well as a weekly flat rate allowance. The scholarship is supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and hopes to give you access to a wide range of scholarly information and resources in Canada.
The International Council for Canadian Studies (ICCS) administers grants that will help you visit a Canadian or foreign university while gaining an enriching teaching or research internship experience. The ICCS hopes that this program will benefit you professionally as well as personally.
Exemption from Differential Tuition fees in Québec
The Ministère de l'Éducation du Québec offers you this exciting opportunity to travel to and pursue studies in Québec without having to incur the additional costs of being an international student. With this program you will be able to benefit greatly from an international education while paying the same fees as a Québec student. The Ministry hopes that this program will help endorse the French language and Québec culture abroad, support international scientific cooperation among universities, and encourage bilateral cooperation between Québec and partner countries.
The Partnerships for Tomorrow Program II is a travel grant mechanism designed to contribute to the democratic and economic reform process in the Balkans, Central Asia and countries of Eastern Europe. The program is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency and administered by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada.
Travellers must be either Canadian citizens or Canadian landed immigrants or citizens or landed immigrants of one of the 10 eligible countries. The eligible countries are: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Serbia and Montenegro, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. Please note: Eligible countries may change during the duration of the project.
The Perimeter Institute, dedicated to research in theoretical physics, offers two of their summer outreach programs dedicated to high school students and teachers (see below for more information). The week-long programs cover all of the participants' costs once they arrive in Toronto (participants must pay only the cost of the flight).
