Instructions for an Adult Abroad Simplified Renewal Passport Application

Are you eligible?

You may use the Simplified Renewal form only if all the following conditions are met:

  • you were at least 16 years of age at the time of your previous application;
  • the name on this application form is exactly as it appears on page 2 of the submitted passport;
  • you submit a previous Canadian passport that:
    • is valid or expired for no more than one (1) year;
    • was/is valid for five (5) years or ten (10) years;
    • is not damaged and;
    • was never reported lost or stolen.

Application Process

Ensuring that your application is completed as thoroughly as possible will help us process it without delay. Incomplete applications will not be processed and will be returned.

Step 1: Download, complete, print, date and sign:

  • Adult Abroad Simplified Renewal Passport Application* PPTC482 (PDF, 510 KB).
  • Ensure you sign the completed application on all pages and that your signature is within the green box on page 1.
  • References:
    • Must have known you for at least two years;
    • Cannot be related to you (this includes in laws and partners);
    • May reside in any country and be of any nationality.

Step 2: Gather supporting documents:

  • Include two identical photographs taken within six months:
    Important: it is highly recommended that you closely examine your photos prior to submitting your application to ensure that the passport photo specifications have been met.
  • Include your last Canadian passport (regardless of expiry date).

Step 3: Include payment: 

  • Please consult the Fees and Method of Payment page for more details.
  • You may omit the postage fee if your application includes a self-addressed registered return envelope that includes postage.

Step 4: Submit your application, choose one of the following:

  • By post (traceable mail):
    High Commission of Canada
    Passport Section
    Canada House
    Trafalgar Square
    SW1Y 5BJ London
  • Via the drop-off box:
    The box is located in the Cockspur entrance of Canada House (Trafalgar Square). Please consult the Hours of Operation page for information about our opening hours and bank holiday closures.
  • In person, at the counter:
