Entry of Pets

If you plan to take your dog or cat from Argentina to Canada, you will have to comply with both Canadian and Argentine requirements. For information on Canadian entry requirements, we suggest that you visit the website of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

As to the formalities required by Argentine authorities for the exit of dogs / cats, you will have to take the following steps:

  1. Obtain from your veterinarian the following certificates:
    • health certificate (no more than 10 days prior to departure date)
    • rabies vaccination certificate issued within the last year. This vaccination is not necessary if the animal is less than three months of age.
  2. Take both certificates to:

Puerto de Buenos Aires, Dársena Sur
Elvira Rawson de Dellepiane s/n (at José C. Balbín)
    Tel: 4362-5755, 4361-4632
Hours: Monday through Fridays: 11:00 pm - 4.00 pm
    Email: lazaretto@senasa.gov.ar

Upon presentation of the certificates indicated above, El Lazareto will issue an international travel certificate (Certificado Sanitario de Viaje) valid for 10 days as of date of issuance of veterinarian's health certificate.

Similar certificates from corresponding official provincial authorities are also acceptable.
