If you are eligible, please follow the steps below to complete your application for proof of citizenship.
To submit an application for proof of Canadian citizenship in Belgium or Luxembourg
Step 1: Download forms, complete and print the application form:
Note: If a question on the application does not apply to you please write N/A.
Step 2: Gather Supporting Documents:
- Refer to the Document Checklist which is included at the end of the CIT 0001 form for all necessary supporting documents
- The applicant is required to provide the Canadian passport and 2 pieces of signature ID.
Note: Original documents will be returned the same day.
- Please refer to the citizenship photo specifications to ensure that your photos meet the requirements. Please also consult our list of photographers known to the Embassy for having produced acceptable photographs.
Step 3: Pay the fee:
- Complete the CIC online payment (preferred option) for a “Proof of Citizenship” and include proof of payment with the application.

Step 4: Submit your application:
- Please submit your application by registered mail or make an appointment with us online if you wish to submit in person: Make an appointment with the Embassy of Canada to Belgium in Brussels
Processing Times
Processing of routine applications for Canadian citizenship can take up to 12 months. The initial application overview is done at the Canadian Embassy. The application is then forwarded to the Registrar of Canadian Citizenship in Sydney, Nova Scotia for processing. Please note that once the application has been sent to Canada, the Embassy has no way of tracking its progress.
