Will I get my old passport back along with the new one?

Yes, but the old passport is cancelled. Please check the return option on your application form.

I have a visa/stamp in my passport. Once the new passport is issued and my old passport is cancelled, does it mean that any visa/stamp will be cancelled as well?

We cannot advise about the validity of stamps and visas. Please contact the issuing authority.

My passport is getting full. Is it possible to get more pages added to it?

Additional pages cannot be added to an existing passport. A new passport will be required, regardless of the expiry date of the full one. For more information visit the Passports page.

May I extend my passport?

The validity of a passport cannot be extended. Please submit a new passport application. For more information visit the Passports page.

Can I ask someone else to collect my passport?

Someone else may collect your passport on your behalf provided this person produces a letter of authorisation from you and a piece of his/her own identification.

Who can I use as the guarantor?

There are two options; an occupation-based guarantor or Canadian passport holder. For more information please visit the Guarantor page.

I've changed my name; can I have this in my new passport?

If you are applying for a new passport following a legal name change, you must first update your proof of Canadian citizenship (i.e. your birth certificate in Canada or your Canadian Citizenship Certificate) to reflect your new legal name.

Please note that the supporting ID submitted in your passport application, must display the exact name you are requesting. Also please bear in mind that a Canadian birth certificate, a Canadian citizenship card or a marriage certificate is not acceptable as supporting document.

My photographer does not have a stamp to put on the back of the photo. What do I do now?

The name and address of the photographer and the date on which the photographs were taken may be written by hand on the back of the photographs. Please consult the Photographs section for additional photo specifications.

Will you accept my application if I use A4 paper?

Downloaded forms can be printed on A4 paper.

How do I find out about the status of my application?

Please visit the Inquiries section regarding the status of your passport application.

Can I pay an additional fee to expedite the processing of my passport?

We are not able to provide expedited services as passports are no longer issued on site. We aim to process applications in 20 business days from the day a complete application is received.

What is acceptable as supporting documents?

Please consult the Supporting Documents page for information on this topic

Is my child required to provide any documents to support his or her identity?
