Supplemental content

The Consular Section is currently experiencing very high volume of visitors. Most clients without appointments can expect to wait 3 hours or more at our office.

Effective Monday May 29th, 2017, the consular section will be implementing a daily quota for clients without appointments. Once the quota has been reached, clients are welcome to use our drop-in box to leave completed passport or citizenship applications. As per current practice, urgent cases will continue to be addressed without appointments.

Effective May 29th 2017, the consular section will also no longer be accommodating routine and general inquiries in person. Canadians who cannot find an answer to their queries on our website should send their questions in writing to (general) or (passport).

We encourage Canadians to plan ahead and to use our online appointment system for submitting completed passport/citizenship applications and requesting notary services, at a more convenient date and time.

Avoid long and sometimes unexpected waiting times at our office - book your online appointment in advance!

Citizenship Services

New citizenship rules

Applications for citizenship certificates are pre-screened at the Consulate before being sent to the Case processing Center (CPC) in Sydney, Nova Scotia.  The processing time may take up to 9 months for a routine application.
