Canada Day 2021 - National day message from the acting Consul General of Canada

Patricia Elliott
Patricia Elliott - acting Consul General

Dear fellow Canadians and friends from Hong Kong and Macao,

Please accept my sincerest best wishes as we mark Canada’s 154th anniversary of Confederation on July 1st.

So much has changed in the year and a half since the pandemic began. It has been a difficult and challenging time, and many countries are still caught in the grip of the virus. Thankfully, the increased availability of vaccines is helping to slow down the spread of COVID‑19 in Canada and Hong Kong. We are optimistic as we travel the road to recovery with you here in Hong Kong and Macao.

This year, more than ever, Canada Day presents an opportunity to show solidarity, understanding, and resilience. It invites Canadians to come together to reflect on our history and culture. Most importantly, Canada Day gives us space to hold a truthful, reconciling, and inclusive dialogue, strengthen the ties that unite us, and look toward our country’s future with optimism while acknowledging the past. This includes Canada’s continuing commitment to reconciliation with its indigenous peoples.

Much of our work has relied on the continued support and friendship of partners around the world, and we thank you for that. Once again, we are having a “socially-distanced” Canada Day. But we are hopeful that by this time next year, we will be able to welcome you to our beautiful country. This July:

  • Share your Canada Day greetings with family and friends by sending them one of our e‑cards! These Canadian‑themed card covers were designed by extremely talented students from Hong Kong and Macao.
  • Check out the Canada Day greeting video on our social media channels.
  • Come visit the “Canada Beautiful Day” market from July 9 to 11 at THE GARAGE @ D2 Place TWO in Lai Chi Kok. Bring home delicious Canadian food and beverages and Canadian-themed leather goods, and partake of the amazing country that Canada is.

Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to stay updated on upcoming activities!

Happy Canada Day! Bonne fête du Canada!

Patricia Elliott
Acting Consul General
