A Certificate of Canadian Citizenship is the documentary evidence that someone is a Canadian Citizen. If you are a landed immigrant looking for information about applying to obtain Canadian citizenship, please refer to the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website dedicated to this topic.
Until further notice, Passport and citizenship applications from Italy, Albania, Malta and San Marino must only be submitted by mail to the Embassy of Canada in Rome (registered mail or courier).
A new law amending the Citizenship Act has come into effect April 2009, limiting Canadian citizenship by descent to the first generation born abroad, and restoring it to many former Canadians.
You can find out more about the new law and complete a questionnaire as a guide to determine whether you may be entitled to Canadian citizenship.

Special instructions and a simplified guide were developed to help you fulfill local requirements:
We encourage all applicants to provide an e-mail address to facilitate communication.
Fees are non-refundable, whether the Certificate of Canadian Citizenship is issued or not.
Payment must be made online through the CIC website, selecting options “Citizenship” and then “Citizenship Certificate - Processing fee”. This will give you a receipt number which will allow you to monitor the status of your application after it is submitted to the Embassy of Canada in Rome. The receipt must be included in your application.
Please send your application by registered mail (or courier) to the following address:
Embassy of Canada
Consular Affairs (C)
Via Zara, 30
00198 ROMA
All complete applications are forwarded to the Citizenship Processing Centre in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. See the time required to process routine applications. On occasion, further information is requested by the Citizenship Processing Centre; for this reason, it is important to communicate to us any changes in your address or phone numbers throughout the process.
Canada and Italy accept dual (and multiple) citizenship. You will not lose your Canadian citizenship if you apply for Italian (or any other) citizenship. If you are a citizen of other countries as well, please verify with their Embassy how acquiring other citizenships may affect your rights and responsibilities.
