Canada and Open Data – in brief
The Government of Canada first launched its Open Government strategy in March 2011, and further enhanced its commitment by announcing its intention to join the Open Government Partnership in September 2011.
Most recently, in June 2013, Canada's new Open Data Portal went live, with the aim of providing Canadians with increased access to government data and information. This followed on the heels of the G8 Summit, where Canada joined other G8 countries, including Italy, in adopting an Open Data Charter.
