Invitation: 2019 La Francophonie Special Screening: “Junior League”

Canada is a proud member of “La Francophonie,” the international association of French-speaking countries. On March 20 every year, Francophones and Francophiles all over the world mark the International Day of La Francophonie. In Japan, Institut français du Japon has planned a month long celebration of events from March 2 through April 14. It is an opportunity to celebrate the French language worldwide, as well as the values of peace, democracy, to respect for human rights, sustainable development and solidarity that unite all members of La Francophonie.

As part of Francophonie Month in Japan, the Embassy of Canada will present a special screening of the 2017 Quebec film, Junior League (“Junior Majeur”), is a story of glory, adversity and friendship in the life of a young hockey player. In this film directed by Quebec Éric Tessier, Quebec actor Antoine Olivier Pilon plays Janeau Trudel, an eighteen-year-old superstar who, five years after winning the world’s most important youth hockey competition (Quebec International Pee-Wee Tournament), has made it to Quebec’s very highest level—the “Junior League.” Just as he expects to be drafted into the NHL professional league, problems arise that throw his career--and his relationships—into crisis. Open to the public.
