An Atmosphere of Shadows: Derek Besant

Exhibition Announcement

June 13 - August 31, 2018
Embassy of Canada Prince Takamado Gallery

May 10, 2018

The Embassy of Canada is pleased to present a contemporary art exhibition entitled “An Atmosphere of Shadows: Derek Besant” featuring a selection of printed works.

The exhibit features contemporary images reflecting metaphors of turbulent life that we all experience.  The stability and endurance of the human spirit against these forces creates an animated installation aimed at survival, hope, and "righting one’s balance…"

The exhibition consists of UV digital printed veils that transform the gallery space.

A Professor of Visual Arts at The Alberta College of Art + Design from 1977 to 2017, Derek Besant is a multi-media visual artist working with industrial technology and unorthodox forms of imaging. His work has been exhibited in Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, Spain and other countries. He currently lives and works in Calgary.
