Cultural Affairs and Academic Relations

Cultural and academic cooperation represents one of the most dynamic aspects of the bilateral relationship between Canada and Mexico.

Canadian artists and performers have become increasingly prominent on the Mexican cultural scene, and personal exchanges and collaborations between artists and cultural personalities are becoming ever more frequent.

Academic and cultural ties are essential components of our relationship. There are significant exchanges and cooperation at the academic level, with more than 400 signed agreements among universities and higher-education institutions. As a priority market under the International Education Strategy, Mexico is Canada’s 11th largest source country for international students globally, and the 2nd largest in Latin American, with more than 5,900 Mexican students going to Canada in 2016 (for six months or more).
