Immediately file a report at the "Agencia del Ministerio Público" nearest to the scene of the crime. This is especially important in case your I.D.s were stolen as a Mexican police report is your only protection should your IDs be misused.
In Mexico City, there are three Ministerios Públicos specialized in assisting tourists (Agencia del Ministerio Público Especializadas en Atención al Turista) respectively located in Polanco, downtown and in the Zona Rosa. You may file your report online using the services of the Virtual MP (Virtual Ministerio Público available in Spanish and English). After filing your report online, you will be given a code with which you will have to present yourself to the Ministerios Públicos for tourists assigned by the system.
Please note that these agencies and the virtual MP are only for filing complaints regarding crimes which happened in Mexico City.
