Information for Canadian Passport Applicants in the Netherlands


Coronavirus disease (COVID-19)

In line with the Government of the Netherlands’ measures to contain COVID-19, the Embassy of Canada to the Netherlands, located in The Hague, is closed to the public until further notice. Canadians in need of emergency consular assistance in the Netherlands should call the Embassy at +31 (0) 70-311-1608 between the hours of 9:30-12:30 on weekdays or the Emergency Watch and Response Centre in Ottawa 24/7 at 00-1-613-996-8885. Canadians in need of emergency consular assistance may also email during operating hours.

For non-urgent passport and citizenship applications, the Embassy’s Consular section will accept mail-in applications only. 

New passports/citizenship certificates will be sent to applicants via the post with prior notification by email.

You will not be admitted to the Embassy without a confirmed appointment. Please review the Embassy’s mandatory COVID-19 hygiene measures before attending your appointment.

Regardless of the method of application, you should always provide an email address to facilitate communication.

In person

Visit the Embassy during the consular and passport section’s hours of operation.

You are required to make an appointment to submit your application.

Bring with you:

  • a valid credit card for payment or proof of payment (if paying by bank transfer)
  • completed passport application form
  • photos (Canadian passport-sized)
  • original documents to support your identity any other documentation required to process your application (see details in application form)

By mail

Before submitting an application by mail, make sure you meet all the requirements, have all the supporting documentation and have filled out all the required information. If any information is missing or if the application is incomplete, your application will be returned to you or you will need to come to the embassy in person to complete the application.

You may submit passport applications by courier or registered mail. Applications by mail must include all of the following:

  • your completed passport application form
  • photos (Canadian passport-sized)
  • copies of supporting ID (signed by your guarantor)
  • original supporting documentation (see details in application form)
  • completed credit card authorization form

If you want your passport returned to you by mail, your application must also include:

  • a pre-paid, self-addressed registered mail envelope or courier envelope
    • The envelope will be used to return your passport to you when it’s ready or to return an incomplete application
    • For registered mail, you must use a pre-paid 0 to 2 Kg label. Make sure the label is not for date-specific delivery

You must pay for passport service before we can begin processing your application.

Processing Times

All regular passports are printed in Canada.

Incomplete applications, missing documents, or photographs that do not meet the current standards, will delay the issuance of your passport and could result in your application being rejected.

A passport is issued within the standard processing times established by Passport Canada.

You should apply for a new passport at least six weeks before planned travel.

Pick-up and Delivery

Once your new passport has been received at our office, we will send you a message to inform you that it is ready. You may then pick it up in person or designate an eligible third party to do so on your behalf by using the form on your official receipt.

If you have provided the embassy with a pre-paid, self-addressed registered mail or courier envelope, your passport will be mailed to you as soon as it arrives at the Embassy.

If you choose to have your passport delivered, know that the embassy is not responsible in cases of loss or damage.
