Canada welcomes code-share agreement between PAL, WestJet

Canada welcomes the new code-share agreement between Philippine Airlines and WestJet, a leading Canadian airline that flies to 90 destinations in North America and Europe.

“We are excited with this enhanced partnership between Philippine Airlines (PAL) and Canada’s WestJet,” Canada’s ambassador to the Philippines Neil Reeder said.

“The fast-growing travel between Canada and the Philippines will be further enhanced with this alliance, providing Filipinos and Canadians wider reach, greater flexibility and convenience in their personal and business travel between our countries,” Ambassador Reeder explained.

This code-share agreement will allow PAL to begin marketing and selling WestJet-operated flights, and carry its passengers to key Canadian domestic points.  Code-share designations will be available on select WestJet flights from Vancouver and Toronto, and all code-share sales are offered directly through PAL or through its global distribution network.

Last year, close to 430,000 one-way trips were made between the two countries, making the Philippines Canada’s 14th largest air travel market.  Approximately 120,000 visitors from Canada travelled to the Philippines last year.  The Philippines is a leading source of permanent residents in Canada and temporary foreign workers.

The Philippines is the only ASEAN country with direct, non-stop commercial air service to Canada.

“Canada values our large and growing Filipino community and we recognize the importance of their being connected with their families and friends.  This agreement will further bridge both air and people connections between our two countries,” Ambassador Reeder said.
