Specific Requirements for Applications for Proof of Citizenship for Children Submitted at the Embassy of Canada to Qatar
Canadian parents of newborns and older children can apply for proof of citizenship on their behalf at the Embassy of Canada. Please note that the citizenship application requires 6 and 12 months for processing. The Embassy will contact you once the certificate arrives in Doha for you to pick it up after presenting a piece of ID.
Please bring the following items to the Embassy when submitting your child’s citizenship application:
- A completed citizenship application form (CIT0001):

- 2 identical photos for the newborn (2 for the citizenship application and 2 additional photos for the passport application if necessary). Photo specifications can be found online at:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/passport/apply/photos.asp
- Original proof of citizenship for the Canadian parent(s), such as a Canadian birth certificate or a Canadian citizenship card/certificate. Please note that if both parents are Canadian citizens, they will both have to submit their own proof of citizenship.
- Original proof of identification of the parents. This can include identification issued by a non-Canadian government.
- An English birth certificate of the child, authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Qatar. If the birth certificate is issued by a country other than Qatar, it will have to be authenticated by the Embassy of the country where the child was born and by the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Moreover, the birth certificate must show the names of the parents as written on their proof of Canadian citizenship and their pieces of identification. The given name written on the citizenship certificate will correspond to all those found on the birth certificate. If a surname is not specified on the birth certificate, the surname on the citizenship certificate will correspond with that of the father. When your child is born, please ask the Ministry of Health to write the full name that you would like to see on the Canadian citizenship certificate in full on the birth certificate.
- A completed credit card form available at the Embassy for the $75.00 CAD (plus $3.00 service charge) processing fee.
If your child requires a passport before you receive the citizenship certificate, you may submit a child passport application:

Please note that you may only submit a passport application for a child younger than two years old without proof of citizenship. Children older than two require proof of citizenship in order to apply for a passport.
