There is no reciprocal agreement on health care between Spain and Canada.
In Spain
Canadian visitors/students to Spain:
Obtain insurance coverage - medical, life, and disability before leaving Canada.
Non-residents of Spain will receive medical emergency assistance however they may be charged for the treatment received.
Canadian citizens working in Spain:
You may be covered for medical treatment under the Spanish Social Security System if your employer pays Spanish Social Security.
In an emergency:
Dial 112 for assistance; English speaking operators are available.
A list of English and French speaking doctors is available. This list is provided for convenience and information purposes only.
In Canada
Health Insurance in Canada falls under provincial/territorial jurisdiction.
If you are returning to Canada following an extended period of absence abroad, you may not be covered immediately upon your return to Canada. Private medical insurance should be obtained to cover the interim period.
