Criminal Record Check
Canadian Criminal Record Check: visit the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) website for detailed information. You will be asked to supply fingerprints. Please note that Canadian authorities do not issue certificates of good conduct.
Obtaining fingerprints (while in Spain): If you are a Canadian citizen, please contact the Embassy of Canada or Consulate of Canada nearest you in order to find out how to get your fingerprints taken.
In order to obtain a police clearance certificate from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, please do the following:
- Request an introduction to Spanish authorities’ letter from the Embassy/Consulate of Canada in Spain nearest you. Please consult the consular fees listing for the applicable fee.
- Submit the letter issued by the Embassy/Consulate of Canada to the local police to have your fingerprints taken.
- Consult the following website for instructions on how to send your fingerprints to the RCMP: http://www.rcmp.gc.ca/cr-cj/fing-empr2-eng.htm
If you are in Madrid, fingerprints are taken at:
- Policía Nacional, Policía Científica (Dpto. de Reseñas)
- Calle Julián Gonzalez Segador s/n, Madrid 28043, metro Pinar del Rey
- Thursdays from 9h00-9h15

Spanish Criminal Record Check (while outside of Spain): The Embassy of Canada cannot request a Spanish police clearance certificate on behalf of a Canadian citizen. Please follow the instructions outlined in the direct link below from the Spanish Ministry of Justice: Personal formalities and procedures / Criminal Record Certificate
- Obtain certified copies of the identification document (passport/Spanish residence permit) through the Spanish Embassy/Consulate nearest you.
- Download and complete the 790 form (click on "Related information - Download the form 790" appearing on the right hand side of the above mentioned web page).
- Payment: From abroad the fee should to be paid via bank transfer. Please follow the payment instructions in the above mentioned web page.
