Notarial Services

The Embassy of Canada and its consulates in Spain can provide limited notarial services such as:

  • Administering oaths and affirmations
  • Authentication of signatures on Spanish documents
  • Certification of true copies of documents
  • Witnessing of signatures

Notarial services are primarily for the benefit of Canadian citizens.  Notarial services will be provided to non-Canadians only if the documents are intended to be used in Canada.

Fees are applicable.

Oaths, Affirmations, Statutory Declarations and Witnessing Signatures

The Embassy and Consulates of Canada can arrange to witness a signature, administer an oath or receive an affidavit for a document to be used in Canada.  However these documents must be reviewed by a consular officer before said service can be rendered.

We strongly recommend that you send an e-mail to espana.consulaire/consular@international.gc.ca attaching the document that requires our signature for our review and explaining your request.  After reviewing the document, we will contact you to confirm whether we can provide you with this notarial service.

Fees are applicable.

Certified True Copies

The Embassy and Consulates of Canada may certify a true copy if the original document is provided and the following conditions are met:

  1. The document is in English or French, or is accompanied by an official English or French translation.
  2. The client is a Canadian citizen or the document is to be used in Canada.

Requests for copies can be made in person or by mail and fees are applicable.

Checklist

If you are sending the originals by mail, please ensure to include the following:

  • Original document(s) to be copied and certified;
