Canada’s High Commission to Sri Lanka and Embassy to Maldives is pleased to launch its annual call for proposals for the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI)

April 30 2019, Sri Lanka

The CFLI is a program that supports small-scale, high-impact projects conceived and designed predominantly by local partners in Sri Lanka and Maldives. This enables Canada to respond to local needs by working at the community level. Equally important, the CFLI serves to strengthen Canada’s relationships with civil society and local communities and to build networks of contacts in countries around the world.

The CFLI is always looking to fund innovative projects, which deliver measurable results. The 2019-2020 call for proposal will focus on the following thematic priorities:

  • Transitional justice: redressing legacies of human rights abuse and inclusive governance, including diversity, democracy, human rights and the rule of law.
  • Environment and climate action: focusing on adaptation and mitigation, as well as on water and/or plastic waste management.
  • Growth that works for everyone: including women’s economic rights as it relates to entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial training.

Advancing the rights of women and girls is a high priority to Canada. We encourage all projects to be developed within a gender equality framework. Weight will be given to proposals that cut across multiple themes (i.e. entrepreneurship and environment).
