Travel – UK

The following advice will help you stay safe and make the most of your visit.

  • Before leaving Canada, please sign up with Registration of Canadians Abroad. This free, confidential service will keep you connected to Canada in case of an emergency in London, or informed about an emergency at home.
  • Travel Report – United Kingdom: Travel Reports offer information on safety and security, local laws and customs, entry requirements, health conditions and other important travel issues.
  • Consular assistance: the High Commission of Canada in the UK is located in the heart of London, on Trafalgar Square, in Canada House and provides consular and passport emergency services. Please consult our passport and consular services page for more information about the services you can expect from us.
  • Emergency assistance is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to Canadian citizens on 020 7258 6600, If you cannot reach the High Commission during normal working hours (08:00 to 16:00) you can call our Operations Centre in Ottawa which is always open. Top tips for Canadians visiting the UK

  • Don’t forget to get good travel insurance before you leave Canada. Medical treatment in the UK is not free for foreign visitors.
  • The emergency services number in the UK is 999.
  • Be aware of pickpockets and thieves and leave your passport in your hotel safe.You do not need to carry your passport as ID in the UK.
  • Remember that traffic drives on the left in the UK so take care when crossing the road. Be aware that cars have right of way over pedestrians except on designated traffic crossings.
